BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Titusville police officers arrested two local men in connection with an attempted murder and aggravated assault that occurred at the 7-Eleven convenience store located at 2 South Hopkins Avenue late Tuesday night.
According to Titusville Police Public Information Officer Amy Matthews, Bobby Mack Britt, 19, of Titusville and Reshod Benjamin Lewis, 27, of Titusville, were taken into custody after officers responded Tuesday about 11:39 p.m. to multiple 911 calls in reference to a confrontation between at least two men near the gas pumps at the 7-Eleven.
“Subsequent 911 calls reported shots were fired at that scene,” said Matthews.
“Officers arrived on the scene and found an adult male victim lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. An adult female victim was present and did not sustain any injuries.”
Matthews said the investigation so far has revealed that the victim had a brief physical altercation with Britt.
Moments later, the victim had a separate physical altercation with Lewis, during which Britt approached the victim from behind and shot him. Additionally, during the course of the altercations, Britt pointed a gun and threatened a female victim, who was with the victim at the time of the incident.
The two suspects then fled the scene southbound on Palm Avenue in a white Ford Taurus.
“Officers spotted the suspect vehicle and a brief pursuit ensued,” said Mathews. “Police blocked the vehicle near the intersection of Barna Avenue and Majestic Court.”
The suspects then fled the disabled vehicle on foot and Britt unlawfully entered a residence on the 1700 block of Barna Avenue.
Both suspects were taken into custody and booked into the Brevard County Jail without bond.
Britt was charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Use of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Burglary to an Occupied Residence, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Resisting Arrest Without Violence and Driving with Knowledge of a Suspended License.
Lewis was charged with Principal in the First Degree to Attempted First Degree Murder, Battery and Resisting Arrest Without Violence.
The victim, who has not been identified, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
This is an ongoing investigation by the Titusville Police Department and additional charges are possible.
