BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – United Launch Alliance has begun preparations for its next Atlas V rocket mission from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, with liftoff targeted for July 3 at 12:03 a.m. EDT.
The mission, designated Amazon Leo 8, will utilize ULA’s powerful Atlas V 551 rocket to deliver 29 advanced broadband satellites into low Earth orbit as part of Amazon’s growing satellite internet constellation.
According to United Launch Alliance, launch campaign activities are already underway at Cape Canaveral as teams prepare the rocket and payload for flight. The launch date remains pending final range approval.
The Atlas V 551 configuration is one of the most powerful versions of the Atlas V rocket, featuring a five-meter payload fairing, five solid rocket boosters, and a single-engine Centaur upper stage.
The vehicle is designed to carry heavy payloads into a variety of orbital destinations.
The Amazon Leo 8 mission represents another step forward in deploying Amazon’s broadband satellite network, which is being built to provide high-speed internet connectivity to customers worldwide.
The 29 satellites scheduled for launch will join previously deployed spacecraft already operating in low Earth orbit.
Space Coast residents and visitors are expected to have an opportunity to view the overnight launch from locations throughout Brevard County, weather and visibility permitting.
The mission continues a busy launch schedule on Florida’s Space Coast, where Cape Canaveral and nearby Kennedy Space Center remain at the forefront of commercial and government spaceflight operations.
