Hurricane Sally Makes Landfall as CAT 2 in Alabama, NHC Monitoring Two Other Hurricanes in Atlantic

National Hurricane Center issues advisories for TS Vicky, Hurricane Paulette and Hurricane Teddy

NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER – Slow-moving Hurricane Sally finally waded ashore on the northern Gulf Coast early Wednesday morning, making landfall as the storm brings potentially devastating flooding to the area.

While Hurricane Sally continues to bring heavy rain, flash flooding and high winds to the Florida Panhandle and Alabama, things closer to Brevard will be quiet comparatively.

Shower and storm development favors the interior of the state today, with rain chances of 40 to 50 percent mainly after 12-1 p.m.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Sally made landfall at 5:45 a.m. EDT near Gulf Shores, Alabama as a Category 2 storm with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph.

The hurricane has left thousands without power near coastal areas of Alabama and the Florida Panhandle region.

“Catastrophic and life-threatening flooding likely along portions of the north-central Gulf Coast,” the NHC said.

In the meantime, the National Hurricane Center has issued advisories for the Atlantic on TS Vicky, Hurricane Paulette, and Hurricane Teddy. None of the storms currently threatens Brevard County.

The Brevard County weather forecast for Wednesday calls for showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm.

Skies will be partly sunny, with a high near 90, with east southeast winds 5 to 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 60%.
