12-Story Condominium Building Collapses Near Miami, Over 80 Miami-Dade Rescue Units Deployed

SURFSIDE, FLORIDA – Rescue crews have responded to the scene of a reported partial collapse of a condominium building near 88 Street and Collins Avenue in Surfside, Florida, after witnesses on the ground say the collapse resembled an earthquake.

The collapse occurred around 1:20 a.m. and over 80 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units have been deployed to the scene with assistance from municipal fire departments.

The 12-story building is Champlain Towers South, which was completed in 1981 and has more than 100 units.

At least one person has been killed, the death toll is expected rise.
