BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School is a special place with special people and we lost one recently in the person of Wayne Moore, who passed away on May 25 after a brief illness.
A lot of people in Brevard County knew him as Coach Moore as he was the head softball coach for the Minutemen for more than 20 years.
He was much more than a coach – Moore was a teacher, a husband, a father and a grandfather. He was an excellent photographer and loved the outdoors. Coach Moore was a beloved individual.
According to long-time friend and coach Brandy Kilcommons, Moore was an “incredible man, a family man, a stand-up guy.” She went on to say, “he treated everyone, his players, the students, myself, with nothing but respect.”
Standout softball player, Summer Johnson, a 2019 graduate of Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School, played for Moore for five years.
“It is hard to put into words, not only the impact he had on my life but the lives of so many other people as well,” said Johnson. “Coach Moore was more than just a coach, he was a friend, a mentor and always someone you could rely on.”
The softball community, and the community in general, will have a chance to support the Moore family on June 26 and June 27 during a special fundraising softball clinic, which will be held over the two days from 9 a.m. to 12 noon each day.
Hitting and fielding instructions will be proved by former players of Coach Moore. The cost is $25 for one day or $40 for both days.
