Mather’s Bridge swings open up to 1,400 times each month

BREVARD COUNTY • INDIAN HARBOUR BEACH, FLORIDA – Mather’s Bridge in Indian Harbour Beach is closed to traffic following a power outage that prevents the swing bridge from opening and closing.
Motorists are encouraged to use Pineda Causeway as an alternative route, but there is no determination as of Monday evening on how long it will take to repair the bridge, which swings open as many as 1,400 times a month for boating traffic and also caters to daily motoring traffic.
A power outage occurred on the bridge Sunday night, but crews were able to get the bridge running again.
By Monday, the power was out again and the bridge was stuck in an open position.
Signage has been placed in the area to alert motorists that the bridge is closed. The U.S. Coast Guard has also been notified. Boats that move through the area will have to do so at their own risk, but some boats will be unable to get through. Law enforcement is also on site to help redirect traffic.
There was no estimate available Monday evening on how long it will take to get the bridge repaired and reopened.
