Tigers slog it out against top-ranked Class 8A Indians in highly-anticipated matchup

VENICE, FLORIDA – The Cocoa Tigers traveled to Venice on Friday night to take on the top-ranked Class 8A Indians in a highly-anticipated matchup.

The Tigers took the lead with a one-yard rushing touchdown from three-star senior running back O.J. Ross, with 8:54 remaining in the first quarter.

Venice answered on the next drive with a 12-yard TD strike from senior quarterback Ryan Browne to Omari Hayes, tying the game 7-7 with 6:44 remaining in the first quarter.

Venice then capitalized on the Tigers’ next drive with an interception by senior linebacker Desavion Cassaway.

The Indians then scored on a three-yard wildcat keep by senior wide receiver Omari Hayes with 2:45 remaining in the first quarter, and the Indians were up 14-7.

Venice then scored on a 60-yard pass and run from Browne to senior wide receiver Keyon Sears, making the score 21-7 with 9:25 to go in the second quarter.

The Tigers took the second-half opening drive 74 yards, which culminated in a one-yard plunge by senior three-star quarterback Davin Wydner.

Wydner then hit three-star senior wide receiver Jmariyae Robinson with an 18-yard touchdown strike on the right sideline. The Tigers, unfortunately, missed the conversion making the final score 21-20.

The Indians were able to run the clock down and utilized their running game with senior running back Damarion Escort rushing for 31 yards in the final five minutes of the ball game.

The Indians advanced to 2-0 and the Tigers fell to 2-1 on the season.
