KICKOFF SET FOR 7 P.M. ON SPACE COAST DAILY TV
Breast Cancer Early Awareness Event
BREVARD COUNTY • SATELLITE BEACH, FLORIDA – The Satellite Scorpions will take on rival Rockledge High School on Friday evening in a big prep football match-up, which you can watch live on Space Coast Daily TV with JC Meyerholtz and Gavin Keith bringing you all the action.
Satellite is having its best season in decades and is faced with arguably the biggest district game in program history.
But that’s not the only battle being fought, as this will be Satellite’s “Pink Out” game, intended to create breast cancer awareness and encourage early detection and a halftime ‘Heroes Night’ tribute for our military.
Satellite head coach Ted Kimmey’s mother, Beth Taylor, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer one year ago and she has been fighting like a champ ever since – and the Satellite Scorpion football team has been her biggest supporter.
On Friday night, Beth will be the team’s honorary captain and flip the coin at their “Pink Out” game.
In addition, she will deliver a pre-game speech, to the Scorps football team, thanking them for inspiring her own fight and the uncommon connection between her recovery and football.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Scorpions Stadium, located on N. Highway A1A and 300 Scorpion Court.
At halftime, there will be a “Heroes Night” tribute honoring our military, law enforcement and first responders.
Coach Kimmey and his team have tirelessly worked on playbooks on the field for their now 6-0 season, and also for Beth’s battle – sending her uplifting videos, photos, messages, running the Breast Cancer Awareness flag at each game and tactics to help her get through the battle.
She now refers to her last year of treatments including chemotherapy, radiation and several surgeries as her own “uncommon playbook to kicking cancer’s butt!” Some may not associate high school with breast cancer, but these two topics sure came together to support Beth as she continues to fight, all the while cheering on her son’s ferocious team.
Beth has become a major advocate of early detection and wants to do everything she can to help promote this important effort.
According to the Carol Milgard Breast Cancer Center, women whose breast cancer is detected at an early stage have a 93 percent or higher survival rate in the first five years. Beth is committed to continuing to spread the word of early detection and encourage all women to make this part of their annual screening as recommended by their physicians.
