Brevard Public Schools, Teachers Union Reach Tentative Agreement on Monday During Negotiations

BPS offers teachers a one-time $2,000 payment

Brevard Public Schools (BPS) came to a tentative contract agreement with the Brevard Federation of Teachers (BFT) union.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard Public Schools (BPS) came to a tentative contract agreement with the Brevard Federation of Teachers (BFT) union.

During the session, BPS offered teachers a one-time $2,000 payment for their performance and dedication to our students and an additional one-time payment of $1,100 for teachers with longevity.

The BPS compensation package includes:
◾$2,000 one-time premium payment to teachers
◾Additional $1,100 payment to teachers earning longevity; 12+ years teaching in BPS
◾$3.79m recurring payment to the health insurance trust fund to avoid healthcare premium increases
◾$6.2m one-time infusion payment to the health insurance trust fund to avoid healthcare premium increases
◾$1,000 supplement to teachers at schools with nine-hour days
◾Hourly rate of pay for Saturday training
◾$71,000 to maintain one salary schedule for teachers

Brevard Public Schools’ total compensation to BFT is $24.3m.

The contract still needs to be ratified by BFT members and approved by the School Board.
