Merritt Island Mustangs Lose Heartbreaker in 5-Set Thriller to Mosley in Class 5A Championship

FORT MYERS, FLORIDA – The Merritt Island Mustangs volleyball team fell to Mosley in a heartbreaking 5-set thriller in Wednesday’s Class 5A State Championship game in Fort Myers.
Merritt Island led 2-0, and the Mustangs had a match point in the third set to complete the sweep, but Mosley rallied.
Mosley High School won with a final set score of 3-2 as the Dolphins claimed their first volleyball state championship in school history.
One of Florida’s finest volleyball programs, Merritt Island made its fifth title game appearance in the last 11 years. The Mustangs were looking to capture the program’s third state title, after winning Gold in 2011 and 2018.
Mosley has had their most memorable season in school history as the Dolphins bounced back from missing the playoffs last year to advance to their first-ever championship game appearance vs. the Mustangs.
The Mustangs had a historic season after claiming the district championship and locking in as the No. 1 seed in their region. Merritt Island was led by its senior leaders that including Jordyn Patrick, Macy Reynolds, Macie Sinclair and Katie Callenberger.
How They Got Here
In round one of the playoffs, the Mustangs cruised to a 3-1 win over Okeechobee.
Next, Merritt Island continued their playoff run and quest for Gold as the Mustangs got their revenge against Jensen Beach, the same team that ended the Mustangs season last year and came out victorious.
Finally, the Mustangs went on to defeat Barron Collier 3-1 in the State Semifinal to clinch a State Championship berth.

◾Jordyn Patrick is leading the team in aces with 73. She also leads in assists with 744.
◾Macy Reynolds leads the teams in digs with 330 on the year
◾Katie Callenberger leads the team in blocks with 37
◾Macy Sinclair leads the team in kills with 256
The Mosley High School Dolphins (22-8) defeated Seabreeze, Middleburg, Ridgeview and Vanguard on their path to the Class 5A State Title game.
