NASA Officials to Tour BPS Aerospace and Technology Programs at Merritt Island Campuses

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Brevard Public Schools (BPS) will welcome Elaine P. Ho, Associate Administrator for the Office of STEM Engagement at NASA Headquarters in Washington, to Merritt Island High School and Edgewood Jr./Sr. High School on Thursday, Aug. 27, for a firsthand look at how BPS students are turning classroom learning into real-world aerospace and technology careers.
BPS is committed to preparing every student for success beyond graduation through high-quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that build hands-on skills, earn industry certifications and open direct pathways into Brevard County’s growing aerospace, engineering, and technology workforce.
As one of 23 Florida school districts selected for the Space Florida Academy Program, BPS is partnering with Space Florida, NASA, Kennedy Space Center and the region’s aerospace and technology industries to help build a skilled, homegrown workforce ready to meet the needs of the Space Coast.
During the visit, NASA officials will tour Merritt Island High School’s Astronautics and Flight Exploration (AFEX) Academy, where students work alongside instructors and industry partners on hands-on aeronautics and flight-systems training, and its Cloud Computing and Virtualization program, where students showcase real-world technology skills.
The tour will continue at Edgewood Jr./Sr. High School, where students in the Robotics Lab will meet with visiting officials and demonstrate their work.
By connecting students directly with agency and industry partners like NASA, BPS is showing students not only what they are learning, but where that learning can take them — while building the next generation of talent to fuel the Space Coast’s aerospace economy.
