A 70-year-old Merritt Island man has died after the motorcycle he was driving on SR-415 in Volusia County was hit by a vehicle traveling in the oncoming lanes Tuesday afternoon.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA – A 70-year-old Merritt Island man has died after the motorcycle he was driving on SR-415 in Volusia County was hit by a vehicle traveling in the oncoming lanes Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities say the crash happened when a sedan vehicle, driven by a 41-year-old Deltona man, lost control of the vehicle along northbound SR-415 near SR-44. The vehicle then veered into the southbound lanes where it struck the motorcycle in a head-on collision.

The 70-year-old Merritt Island man died at the crash scene, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash still remains under investigation.
