BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The City of Melbourne and Marine Resource Council are set to host the “Baffling Baffle Boxes” virtual field trip on December 16.

The event will begin at 9 a.m.

The special guest will be Ms. Dani Straub, P.E., of Melbourne’s Engineering Department, will give a tour of the Sherwood Park Water Quality Project.

Straub is the City of Melbourne’s Engineering Project Manager and has worked for the City for the last 16 years. She developed the idea for the stormwater system featured in this virtual field trip.

She will share how rain gardens, vegetated retention ponds, and baffle boxes can clean polluted water before entering the Indian River Lagoon.

This 60-minute long virtual field trip is geared toward youth but is open to all ages. Participants will have the chance to ask questions through the Q&A box.

Participants are also encouraged to email questions about stormwater and baffle boxes to the MRC’s Programs Coordinator, Bri Forte at bri@mrcirl.org by December 15.

Join us for this eye-opening event to get a closer look at how the City of Melbourne and its partners are working to prevent litter and chemicals from entering our waterways.

The field trip presentation will also be live streaming and available to watch through the MRC Facebook page.

To register for this event, go to SaveTheirl.org to receive a Zoom link and log-in information.
