Florida Tech Men’s Basketball Guard Sean Houpt Earns Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week Honors

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech men’s basketball’s Sean Houpt has been named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week.
The Danville, Illinois product picks up his first career play of the week award after leading Florida Tech to a 2-0 record last week with wins over Florida Southern (85-80) and Rollins (92-77).
He averaged 28 points and four rebounds per game while shooting 55% (17-31) from the field and 56% (14-25) from three.
Houpt recorded a career-high 24 points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist on 44% (7-16) shooting and 50% (6-12) beyond the arc to guide the Panthers to the win over Florida Southern on Wednesday.
He then set a new career-high with 32 points to go along with six rebounds and one block on 67% (10-15) from the field and 61.5% (8-13) from three-point range as the Panthers ran past Rollins on Saturday.
Houpt’s 8-made three-point field goals against Rollins are tied for 6th most in a game in program history.
Florida Tech is off to a 3-0 start in SSC play for the first time since the 1996-97 season. Houpt’s efforts also helped extend the Panthers’ win streak to eight games, the longest since the 2012-13 campaign.
The Panthers are back in action this Saturday, Dec. 11, taking on No. 6 Nova Southeastern on the road in Fort Lauderdale. The contest tips off at 4 p.m. at Rick Case Arena.
