Florida Tech Panthers Forward Mekhii Noble Earns Back-to-Back SSC Defensive Player of the Week Awards

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – After another monstrous week, Mekhii Noble has been named the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row.

This is Noble’s second career SSC player of the week award.

Noble recorded a double-double in all four games last week and averaged 14.75 points, 14.0 rebounds (10.5 defensive rebounds), one block, one assist and 0.5 steals per game while shooting 66% from the field to lead Florida Tech to a 4-0 week.

The senior, Jacksonville, Florida native has now notched a double-double in all seven games this season.

Noble started the week recording 12 points and 16 rebounds on 6-10 shooting in a 73-47 win over Puerto Rico-Bayamon on Tuesday and then followed it up with an 18-point, 14-rebound effort on 9-14 shooting in a 94-68 victory over Johnson on Wednesday.

The 6-8 forward tallied 11 points, 14 rebounds, two blocks, and one steal on 5-8 shooting in a 95-66 win over Morris College on Friday in the first game of the weekend’s Erdman Automotive Thanksgiving Tournament.

Noble closed out the week with 18 points, 12 rebounds, two blocks, and one steal on 7-9 shooting in a 110-74 rout of Bayamon on Saturday to win the Thanksgiving Tournament Championship. He was named to the All-Tournament Team following the championship game.

Noble’s great play has guided the Panthers to a 6-1 record this season and a 1-0 mark in SSC play. He leads the SSC in rebounding (13.6), total rebounds (95), defensive rebounding (10.1), and total defensive rebounds (95).

He also ranks 13th in the SSC in scoring at 15.4 points per game, is third in blocks (8), and 5th in blocks per game (1.1).

The men’s basketball team dives back into the SSC schedule this week as the Panthers host No. 23 Florida Southern on Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 7:30 p.m. before traveling to Winter Park for a showdown with Rollins on Saturday, Dec. 4, at 4 p.m.
