Florida Tech Panthers Basketball Player Elias Martin Named SSC Defensive Player of the Week

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Junior Elias Martin of the Florida Tech Men’s Basketball team has been named the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
This is the first time the forward has received this award in his career and the first time a Panthers player has been named Defensive Player of the Week in the 2022-23 season.
Florida Tech had one game this week and took advantage of its opportunity by taking down No. 23 Embry-Riddle 76-61 at the Clemente Center.
The win moved the Panthers into second place in the SSC. In the win, Florida Tech held Embry-Riddle to its lowest point total of the season.
The relentless effort of Martin was a big reason why the Panthers had success on the defensive side of the ball. The Green Cove Springs, Florida native protected the paint with four blocks.
On the glass, Martin brought down nine rebounds, eight of which were defensive boards. Rounding out his stat line, Martin recorded one steal.
This is the third SSC honor Florida Tech has received with Sean Houpt and Sesan Russell each receiving an SSC Player of the Week award earlier on in the season.
