FHP UPDATE: Brevard Deputies, Melbourne Beach Police Officers Arrest Fatal Hit and Run Suspect

Florida Highway Patrol Troopers are investigating a fatal hit and run crash in Melbourne Beach that occurred at 9:55 a.m. Tuesday morning. Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson Lt. Kim Montes said the crash occurred on State Road A1A and Harmony Place and involves a pickup truck that struck a bicyclist and left the scene. The yet-to-be-identified driver has been arrested for leaving the scene of a fatal crash and will be booked into the Brevard County Jail. This crash remains under investigation.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE BEACH, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol Troopers are investigating a fatal hit and run crash in Melbourne Beach that occurred at 9:53 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson Lt. Kim Montes said the crash occurred on State Road A1A and Harmony Place and involves a pickup truck that struck a bicyclist and left the scene.

Lt. Montes identified the victim as a 57-year-old man of Solon, Ohio.

“The bicyclist was transported to Holmes Regional where the bicyclist later died,” said Lt. Montes.

“The suspected pickup truck and driver were located by Brevard County deputies, three miles from the scene.”

Lt. Montes said the driver is a 32-year-old man from Melbourne.

In a release, Lt. Montes said a 2001 Dodge pickup truck was traveling northbound on State Road A1A as a bicyclist, who was traveling northbound on State Road A1A, in front of the pickup truck. The front of the truck struck the bicyclist who was ejected and later died at Holmes Regional Hospital.

Several witnesses told law enforcement that the white pickup truck fled the scene, northbound on State Road A1A.

“The pickup truck and driver were located three miles from the crash scene, by Melbourne Beach officers and Brevard County Deputies.

The yet-to-be-identified driver has been arrested for leaving the scene of a fatal crash and will be booked into the Brevard County Jail. This crash remains under investigation.
