Police Investigate String of Three Shootings Within 24 Hours in Melbourne, Five People Injured

Melbourne Police are investigating a string of three shootings in the area within 24 hours that injured a total five people on Sunday.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police are investigating a string of three shootings in the area within 24 hours that injured a total five people on Sunday.

Melbourne Police Officers responded to the first shooting on Sunday at 01:57 a.m., near the 3300 block of Testimony St. in reference of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they learned a group of people had gathered on the street when a vehicle (unknown description) drove by, with unknown occupants inside, shooting towards the group.

Police say a person in the group returned fire from his lawfully carried firearm. Prior to the arrival of officers, the suspect(s) and the group of people left the area. Officers found several cars and homes had been hit by bullets.

Approximately 15 minutes later, officers on Testimony St. reported a second shooting after hearing gunfire coming from the 1200 block of E. University Blvd.

After officers arrived, they found a 29-year-old male victim who stated he had been shot by an unknown person in an unknown vehicle driving by his house.

While investigating both calls, the two shooting victims, identified as a 21-year-old man and 23-year-old man, arrived at Holmes Regional Medical Center (HRMC) claiming to have been shot while on Testimony St, and two additional victims, identified as a 26-year-old woman and 38-year-old woman, arrived at Holmes Regional also claiming to have been shot at 1208 E. University Blvd.

All victims were treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. At this time, it is unknown if the two shootings are connected to each other.

The third shooting happened also happened on Sunday around 4:43 p.m., when Melbourne Police Officers responded to 2829 Colbert Circle regarding another report of shots fired .

When officers arrived, they learned a 19-year-old man was seated in a car in front of this house. A 29-year-old female acquaintance of the male, was standing near the car’s trunk when a light blue SUV pulled up behind them.

An unknown man, identified by witnesses as a black male, exited the passenger side of the SUV and began to shoot at the car.

Both, the man and the woman ran and were not injured.

Witnesses say the suspect then got back in the SUV and fled the area.

“The Melbourne Police Department is investigating all three shootings. It is unclear at this time if the three are related other than by time and/or proximity,” said a police spokesperson.

“The Department is requesting the assistance of anyone who may have witnessed any of these incidents to call the Department to provide any information. Detective Brackett is investigating these cases and he can be contacted at 321-608-6450.”
