Titusville Police Arrest 14-Year-Old Suspect in Connection With Shooting Death of Mercutio Burford

Titusville Police Detectives have arrested a 14-year-old male suspect in connection with the shooting death of 17-year old Mercutio Nicholias Burford which occurred on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at approximately 1 p.m.

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Titusville Police Detectives have arrested a 14-year-old male suspect in connection with the shooting death of 17-year old Mercutio Nicholias Burford which occurred on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at approximately 1 p.m.

According to Titusville Police spokesperson Amy Matthews, the suspect, who is not being identified at this time due to his age, is from Mims and has been charged with 1st Degree Murder.

“The preliminary investigation revealed (the suspect) fatally shot the victim near the bike trail just across the highway from Parrish Medical Center,” said Matthews.

Titusville Police detectives released a description of the suspect based on witness accounts and investigative tips.

According to Matthews, investigative evidence resulted in the subsequent arrest of the suspect who was located near the 400 block of North Dixie Highway Friday at approximately 1:30 p.m.

“Based on the initial evidence, detectives believe this was not a random crime and (the suspect) knew the suspect,” said Matthews.

The suspect was taken into custody by police and transferred to the Brevard County Detention Center.
