Former Eastern Florida Pitcher Tommy Romero to Make Major League Baseball Debut Tuesday Night

Will make MLB debut Tuesday night in Tampa against the Oakland A's

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Former Eastern Florida State College pitching standout Tommy Romero was called up to the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday and is scheduled to make his Major League Baseball debut Tuesday night in Tampa against the Oakland A’s.
Romero made 23 appearances (21 starts) between Double-A and Triple-A last year, and he posted a 2.61 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in 110.1 innings.
Romero was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 15th round of the Major League Baseball Draft in 2017 and was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018.
For the Titans, Romero led NJCAA Division I baseball in strikeouts with 145 and was ninth in ERA with a 1.55 ERA. Romero started 15 games for the Titans, throwing 93 innings and picking up nine wins.
Romero finished with a 14.03 strikeout per nine rates which is third in the nation and he struck out at least 10 hitters in nine of his 15 starts in his sophomore season.
He was named to the NJCAA Division I All-America first team and was the Region 8 and FCSAA Pitcher of the Year. The right-hander led the Titans to the state tournament in 2017, the last time a Titans team has made the tournament.
