BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Brevard Public Schools hosted the Brevard Federation of Teachers Union in the first round of contract negotiations ahead of the 2022-2023 school year.

According to PS officials, progress was made in two main areas during the nearly eight hours of negotiations.

Teachers will be eligible for three payments of $1,000, $1,200 and $1,200 throughout the school year. Teachers with eight years of service or more to BPS will get an additional $1,000 payment.

BPS offered teachers $45 to cover a class when a fellow teacher is out, up from the current $15 and a higher offer than what was being asked for by the union.

“BPS knows the great lengths our teachers go to every day, and this shows the district’s acknowledgment of the value our teachers bring to our students,” said a BPS spokesperson.

BPS and BFT will continue contract negotiations on Thursday, May 5th.
