BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A new ranking recognizing universities that prepare students for the jobs of tomorrow with “degrees of the future” has honored Florida Tech in the Aerospace/Astronautical Engineering category.

Gizmodo’s Degrees of the Future 2022, presented by the tech news website and Statista Inc., a leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider, included Florida Tech and a prestigious group of other universities, such as MIT, Georgia Tech, Johns Hopkins and Caltech, in that category.

The goal, Gizmodo says, is “to provide guidance to students who are choosing a university in one of these important fields, and to recognize the universities doing the best job preparing those students for the future.”

“We’ve only awarded accolades to a small number of institutions in each discipline; if a school appears on one of the following lists, it’s among the best of the best.”

The Degrees of the Future 2022 schools were selected based on an independent survey of thousands of university employees, including professors and administrators, as well as students and alumni.

More than 15,000 people were invited to take part in the survey, which asked participants to recommend institutions and rate additional dimensions such as academic expertise or research achievements. More than 10,000 responses were recorded.

Additionally, federal statistical data from Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, the College Scorecard, and the National Center for Education Statistics were considered for 10 performance indicators, such as enrollment, costs, and graduates.

Bibliometric data indicating the impact of published scholarly papers was factored in, as well.

To receive an award, an institution had to be recommended and had to receive a total score value above average.
