Brevard County Sandbag Distribution List Announced Amid Potential Major Hurricane Impact on Florida

By  //  September 23, 2022

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – By now, most of our community has started to monitor the storm system that is forming in the Atlantic with the potential to impact the state of Florida in the coming week.

As a result, our agency along with our Public Safety partners are working closely with the Brevard County Emergency Operation Center to monitor the storm and any potential impact to our immediate area.

With that said, now is the time to make your storm preparations and to make sure your family, your home, your business, and your pets, are well prepared to weather any storm that may come our way.

Currently, our biggest concern is focused on potential rainfall amounts, as our community is pretty saturated from the previous amount of rainfall that we have experienced over the past several weeks.

As a result, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office will begin distributing sandbags (at no cost) to our citizens, starting tomorrow morning at a single location, with other locations coming on-line Sunday morning and continuing through Monday evening.

In an effort to expedite the process, we will be using inmate labor to fill and load the sandbags directly into our citizen’s vehicles. This will be conducted under the supervision and direction of Sheriff’s Office employees who are working through the night to prepare for the various distribution sites.

Sandbags will be available at the following locations, days, and times:

SATURDAY, SUNDAY, AND MONDAY DISTRIBUTION SITE:
Mitchell Ellington Park
575 Hall Road
Merritt Island
HOURS: 8:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M.

SUNDAY AND MONDAY ONLY DISTRIBUTION SITES:
Chain of Lakes
2300 Truman Scarborough WayTitusville
Wickham Park
2500 Parkway Dr
Melbourne
*Enter on Parkway Drive*

Eastern Florida State College Palm Bay Campus
250 Community College Pkwy SE
Palm Bay
HOURS: 8:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M.

Please go to the sandbag location closest to your residence and remember that each
vehicle can obtain a maximum of 10 free sandbags so they can help prepare their homes and businesses for potential flooding.

Also, remember that lines can build quickly at the various sandbag distribution sites, so bring water, snacks or anything you may need if there is an extended wait time.

As I always say…it takes a community to protect a community, so please be courteous and if possible, try to help out your neighbors, especially our seniors, as we want to make sure everyone is safe and sound!!
