Looking for a new car that suits all your needs can be a challenge, especially when you want to make sure you make the most cost-efficient and environmentally-friendly choice.

Whilst gas-powered cars appear to be a thing of the past, and all-electric vehicles may be pushing the top of your budget, you’ll be glad to know there’s a happy medium – hybrid vehicles.

Unlike standard gas cars, you’ll need specialist insurance which can, at first glance be a little off-putting. However, there are plenty of benefits and incentives that come with going electric, such as saving money on fuel long-term. You can find out more about electric insurance here, or read on to discover some of the best hybrid vehicles on the market right now!

What is a hybrid vehicle?

A hybrid vehicle runs using a handy combination of both a lithium-ion battery and a gas-powered motor. Essentially, it takes the best part of gas and electric vehicles to create an optimal experience.

There are two types of hybrid cars – one which relies mainly on gas but has a battery which will provide enough power for driving the car at slower speeds, like in residential areas and cities, for example. This is what’s known as a full hybrid vehicle.

There’s also a plug-in hybrid, in which the battery is the primary power source. When the battery runs down, the gas engine will take over, helping you to reach further distances before stopping at a charging port.

Both cars are eco-friendlier than a standard gas vehicle, thanks to the use of a battery that doesn’t produce the harmful carbon emissions into the atmosphere that gas engines do.

With this in mind, here are some of our top hybrid picks:

Bronze

In third place is the 2022 Toyota Avalon Hybrid, which features a spacious, classy interior with a large cargo area for a relaxed ride. With five seats, 215 Horsepower and an XSE Nightshade that replaces last year’s XSE trim, you’ll find this luxurious hybrid vehicle is perfect for families

Whilst the fuel economy figures are below average for the hybrid car class of this vehicle, and the touch screen can be a little slow, there is ample room for cargo and passengers, passings safety and reliability ratings with flying colours.

Silver

Our silver medal goes to the 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid, which has agile handling and extra road comfort. The seats are particularly spacious, with elegant materials decorating the cabin. There are five seats and a new sport trim replacing previous years’ EX trim, as well as 212 horsepower pairing with the smooth ride and safety features.

Finally, in first place and taking gold is the 2022 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, with a high-end, spacious interior and good fuel economy on its side. With plenty of great features, such as easy-going steering making for a comfortable ride, there’s a new parking assist feature that you can set up according to your preferences.

The solid combination of quality and value helps this car soar to the top of our list, with fast acceleration and controlled handling helping it well on its way.

The trunk is a good size and there’s an easy-to-use infotainment system. The only downsides are an unrefined transmission and breaks that can be difficult to modulate.
