Titusville Police Respond to Armed Barricaded Man Who Surrendered After Negotiators Defused Crisis

Titusville Police responded to a report of an adult male making threats to harm himself while barricaded in a disabled vehicle in front of a residence located at the 500 block of Hillcrest Avenue at approximately 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

David Christian, 51, of Merritt Island, was arrested and charged with Two Felony Counts of Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer, Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Felony Possession of Firearm Ammunition by a Convicted Felon and Felony Resisting Arrest Without Violence.

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Titusville Police responded to a report of an adult male making threats to harm himself while barricaded in a disabled vehicle in front of a residence located at the 500 block of Hillcrest Avenue at approximately 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to Titusville police spokesperson Amy Matthews, officers arrived on the scene, and the suspect David Christian, 51, of Merritt Island, exited the vehicle holding a loaded handgun under his chin while approaching officers and a witness.

Officers and the witness moved to safety, and Christian returned to the vehicle and refused to surrender to the police.

“In response to crucial investigative information acquired by police, the Titusville Police S.W.A.T. Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were deployed to the residence,” said Matthews.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., negotiations by police resulted in Christian exiting the vehicle unarmed.

Christian was arrested and charged with Two Felony Counts of Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer, Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Felony Possession of Firearm Ammunition by a Convicted Felon and Felony Resisting Arrest Without Violence.

Christian was booked into the Brevard County Jail without bond.
