BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – A marine fueling station has been added to the Griffis Landing working-waterfront area of the Indian River Lagoon, a project that resulted through a partnership between Brevard County Government and the Merritt Island Redevelopment Agency.

The new fueling station, located at 588 W. Merritt Island Causeway (adjacent to Doc’s Bait House and Ms. Apples Crab Shack), has been named the Tom Vani Fuel Dock, in tribute to Vani who served on the MIRA Board of Directors and was a strong advocate for the fuel dock during his time volunteering for MIRA.

The fuel dock, accessible only by water, was constructed in conjunction with the recent maintenance dredging of the access channel, making the fuel tank easier to access.

The dredging was managed by Brevard County and funded by MIRA.

The $53,000 project was managed by Matt Culver, Boating and Waterways Program coordinator with the County’s Natural Resources Management Department, with work performed by Doug Wilson Enterprises Inc, working with Petroleum Technicians Inc.

The fuel dock, which officially opened in November, provides boaters on the Indian River Lagoon an additional stop to refill with ethanol-free fuel.

Profits from fuel sales will be reinvested in future improvements at the Griffis Landing site.
