Award presented to player who has had finest overall season in Small College Basketball

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Small College Basketball announced today that Florida Tech Men’s Basketball senior guard Sesan Russell has been named to the Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List.

The Clarence “Bevo” Francis Award has been presented annually since 2016 to the player who has had the finest overall season in Small College Basketball. The award considers players participating in NCAA Division II and III, as well as the NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA.

In 16 games played, Russell has been an offensive beast, averaging 20.6 points per game, which is third-best in the Sunshine State Conference.

With 6.4 assists per game, Russell is tied for first place in the league. Russell has great range with his jump shot, knocking down 41 3-pointers on the season.

Lastly, the London, England native has been lethal at the free throw line, with the second-best free throw percentage in the conference at 88.6%.

Defensively, Russell has 30 steals on the year and is tied for fourth-best in the SSC. The Panthers as a team have been a strong defensive group all season, giving up just 68.6 points per game, which is first place in the SSC.

The senior has been moving up the record books this year and is one of two players in Florida Tech history with 1,500 points, 400 rebounds, 300 assists, and 150 steals in their career.

Florida Tech currently sits by itself in second place in the conference with a record of 13-4 and 6-3 in the SSC. In its most recent game, the Panthers took down No. 18/23 Embry-Riddle 76-61 at home, where Russell had one of his best games of the season with 28 points and six assists.

Russell is the first Florida Tech player to be named to the Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List since Sam Daniel in 2018. On February 15 the list will be reduced to 50 players.

A month later on March 15, the players making the top 25 will be announced. On April 1, the finalists will be announced before the winner is chosen on April 3.

Previous winners of the Bevo Francis Award are Dominez Burnett of Davenport, Justin Pitts of Northwest Missouri State, Emanuel Terry of Lincoln Memorial, Aston Francis of Wheaton, Kyle Mangas of Indiana Wesleyan, and Trevor Hudgins of Northwest Missouri State.

Florida Tech returns to the court on January 18 at home against Eckerd College. Tip-off from the Clemente Center is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
