BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – The No.1 ranked Viera Hawks claimed their first boy’s soccer state title after defeating the Fort Myers Green Wave 4-2 in the FHSAA Class 6A State Championship at Spec Martin Stadium in Deland on Saturday.
The four goals in the game came from Max May, Yordan Torres (2), and Alex Canlas.
The undefeated Hawks claimed their first title after falling short last season against Doral Academy.
Viera finished the regular season 20-0-1 under seventh-year head coach Nick Robinson.
Over his seven years as leader of the Hawks, Robinson has an overall record of 109-22-11 and two state championship appearances.
How They Got Here:
■ In round one of the playoffs, the Hawks cruised to a 5-1 win over Bartow.
■ Next, Viera continued their playoff run and quest for gold as the Hawks defended home field once again defeating Melbourne 1-0.
■ Finally, the Hawks went on to defeat New Smyrna Beach 4-0 and then ultimately defeated St. Thomas Aquinas 2-1 in the State Semifinal to clinch a State Championship berth for the second time in program history.
