Brevard County Commissioner Kristine Zonka Named New Administrator of Florida Department of Health in Brevard

Gov. DeSantis to appoint Zonka's replacement after she resigns to begin her new job

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – District 5 Brevard County Commissioner Kristine Zonka has been named the new administrator of the Florida Department of Health in Brevard by Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo.
Zonka, who earned a master’s degree and a doctorate in nurse practice, is a Health First nurse practitioner and also a medical director for nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Her new position will require approval by the Brevard County Commission and will come to a vote during the Tuesday, March 7 regular meeting.
Zonka was first elected to the Brevard County Commission in 2016 and reelected in 2020. As she is in the middle of her current four-year term, Gov. Ron DeSantis will appoint Zonka’s replacement after she resigns to begin her new job.
With a staff of approximately 400, the Florida Department of Health in Brevard County responds to the public health needs of the over 600,000 Brevard citizens.
“The future will hold new public health challenges and DOH-Brevard is ready,” according to the DOH-Brevard website.
Zonka’s last day with the Brevard County Commission is yet to be determined.
