BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission coordinates manatee rescue efforts within Florida’s 67 counties, including Brevard.

Reports of injured or sick manatees are investigated, and field responses are implemented for cases that require rescue interventions.

Have you been wanting to help manatees affected by the Unusual Mortality Event along our Atlantic coast? Or maybe you want to help support manatee conservation across the state?

You can show manatees some love through any (or all!) of the following:

■ Give manatees space whenever you see them, whether on, in, or near the water.

■ Go slow and lookout below for manatees (and other wildlife) when boating or on personal watercraft.

■ Report sightings of sick, injured, orphaned, or dead manatees to our Wildlife Alert Hotline: 888-404-FWCC (3922).

■ Consider supporting one or more of several organizations involved in manatee conservation, such as our partners with the Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation Partnership and the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida.

Wildlife experts with the FWC perform consistent, high-quality postmortem examinations of carcasses. Results from the examinations are summarized and available to be searched by county, month, year, and probable cause of death.
