BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Central Florida Winds will perform the music of our nation’s finest composers in a musical salute, AMERICA: 250 Years of Freedom, on Sunday, May 17, at 3 p.m., at Suntree United Methodist Church in North Melbourne.
The red, white, and blue concert will feature a lineup of patriotic music celebrating our nation’s sesquicentennial.
Attendees can expect to hear “America the Beautiful” and “To You, America,” along with medleys that include emblematic songs like “Yankee Doodle Dandy.”
“Chester” became an anthem of the American Revolution, sung by soldiers around campfires and played by fifers as troops marched.
“Jubilee” captures an American style that blends ragtime influences, rhythmic energy, and orchestral brilliance, while “Be Glad Then, America” is a jubilant celebration of the nation’s founding and enduring spirit.
Of course, no patriotic concert would be complete without music from America’s “March King,” John Philip Sousa.
The audience is sure to delight in “The Yorktown Centennial March,” “America First,” and “Stars and Stripes Forever,” which is often accompanied by clapping or flag-waving.

Attendees to AMERICA: 250 Years of Freedom are invited to dress in red, white, and blue in a show of patriotic solidarity.
Arrive early for the best seating. The 50+ members of the Central Florida Winds orchestra are a mix of professional woodwind, brass, and percussion players, retired professional musicians, talented music teachers, and gifted high-school and college students.
While all Central Florida Winds concerts are free, a $10 donation is suggested. Call 321-405-2359 or visit CFWinds.org for a complete concert schedule of the Central Florida Winds and their chamber ensemble.
Richard Sabino is the founder and conductor of the Central Florida Winds. To Sabino, the concert is a chance to celebrate our shared values and foster civic unity.
“The world’s greatest democracy is now 250 years old,” said the Maestro.
“One way to celebrate is through the work of American composers who helped create our shared national identity, and whose music continues to lift our spirits and unite us as Americans.”
