BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Astronaut High Schools Kyle Gilreath stepped down as head basketball coach after seven seasons as the leader of the program.

Coach Gilreath was hired back in 2016 and surpassed the 100-win mark this past season, finishing as the third all-time winningest coach in War Eagles history.

Below is the statement he released following the decision to step down as head coach:

The past seven years leading The Brotherhood have been the best and most fulfilling years of my coaching career. The relationships that have been built between the players, their families, coaches, and the community will be cherished for a lifetime.

After much consideration, I have made the decision to step down as the head boys’ basketball coach at Astronaut High School. When I was hired in 2016.

I had two goals I hoped to accomplish:

1. Build a state-level program that would also help give players the opportunity to play at the collegiate level

2. Mentor young men on and off the court to help them succeed beyond basketball. In my humble opinion, both goals were exceeded.

Thank you to Ms. Shivel and Mrs. Miller for trusting me and giving me the opportunity to build our brand of basketball at Astronaut High School.

I am looking forward to the day that I return to the sideline to coach the game that I have loved my entire life —but for now, I am going to invest my time into my family and other professional opportunities.

To every single player that has graduated from The Brotherhood, Thank YOU. I love you and will always do anything for you.
