BREAKING: National Hurricane Center Monitors Tropical System Developing in Atlantic Ocean

Breaking: NHC 2 p.m. report shows system developing in East Atlantic Ocean

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – With hurricane season in full swing, National Hurricane Center is monitoring the first major tropical system developing in the East Atlantic Ocean on Sunday.

Forecasters say this system has a 90-percent chance of becoming a tropical system over the next week.

The system is currently carrying showers and thunderstorms that have become better organized with broad area of low pressure located several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.

Experts are warning that environmental conditions appear favorable for additional development. It it likely to become a tropical depression or tropical storm over the next day or so.

This system is forecast to move westward at 15 to 20 mph across the central tropical Atlantic with further development through the middle part of the week.

Hurricane season began on June 1 and will run through November 30.

Should the storm become a named storm, it would be called ‘Brett’.
