BREVARD COUNTY, BREVARD – Lawrence Francis Makela Jr., better known as Larry, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 12, 2023 from a heart attack.
He was born on March 27, 1968 in Rockledge, FL, to Judith and Larry Sr. Larry graduated from Cocoa High School class of 1986 then attended the University of Alabama. He worked at Walt Disney World, celebrating 16 years, and many years at Winn Dixie prior.
If it was a sport, Larry loved it, particularly golf, football, basketball, and hockey. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially spending much of his free time coaching and investing in the next generation. Most of all, many will remember how much he loved Alabama – Roll Tide- and the Dolphins (since he was able to wear a helmet).
Larry is predeceased by his father, Lawrence Sr., and is survived by his wife of 7 years, Laura Makela, his children: Michelle (Tommy), Austin, Christopher (Kristina), Shelby (Daniel), and Thomas, his grandchildren: Sophia, Ryleigh, Eliana, Grayson, Carson, and Warren, his mother, Judith, his mother-in-law, Charlu, father-in-law, Wesley, and his siblings, Susan (Bryan) and Cindy (Richard), along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family.
To honor Larry’s memory, we are holding a celebration of his life on Saturday, July 29th from 4-7 p.m. at 4575 Alan Shepard Avenue, Cocoa, FL, 32926. We invite anyone who knows him to attend and remember his wonderful life. We would like you to wear your favorite team affiliated jersey or the color blue to commemorate him.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Larry by donating to your local high school sports programs. Thank you for the outpouring of love and support.
