BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – The Cocoa Police Department will host a Chief’s Watch meeting for the residents in District 2 on Monday, August 28, 2023 at 6 p.m. at the Florida National Guard Armory, located at 308 N. Fiske Blvd.

All are welcome to attend.

The meeting will provide information to residents about police calls for service in the district and how they can collaborate with the police department to reduce crime and improve the overall quality of life in the city.

The Chief’s Watch program was initiated earlier this year as a means to foster trust and positive relationships between the community and law enforcement. The program aims to encourage residents to take an active role in their neighborhoods by establishing their own watch programs in partnership with the police department.

Each district within the city has a Chief’s Watch chairperson and co-chair, responsible for organizing quarterly meetings.

These meetings will include various police personnel who will educate the residents about their roles and responsibilities. Each district chair and co-chair will be trained as a part of the police department’s

Volunteer Citizen Observer Program (VCOP) and will work with law enforcement personnel.

The program’s ultimate goal is to collaborate with residents to enhance neighborhoods, emphasizing the importance of communication and partnership between neighbors and police.

The hope is by fostering better understanding and cooperation, positive changes can occur that benefit everyone in the community. Chief Evander Collier IV said, “When neighbors and police work together, it creates a positive ripple effect that leads to safer, more vibrant, and cohesive neighborhoods for everyone involved.”
