Tourist Development Council Cultural Committee to Consider Grant Applications During Meeting Today

The program will award up to $75,000 per eligible application

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Tourist Development Council Cultural Committee will hold a meeting at the Space Coast tourism office in Cocoa Beach today to consider applications for the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 Major Event Grant Program.

Goals of the Major Event Grant Program are to promote Brevard County as a destination to both visitors and residents and make a positive impact to Brevard County tourism; and to enhance the Space Coast through increased large events and marketing support for the benefit of visitors and residents.

The meeting will be held at the Tourism Development Office, located at 150 Cocoa Isles Blvd., Suite 401, in Cocoa Beach.

Committee members include Chair Andrea Young, Vice Chair Juliet Misconi, Aaron Collins, Bonnie King, Jim Platman, Jim Ridenour, Kim Wilson, Mariah Castro and Steven Heron.

As the designated local arts agency, Brevard Cultural Alliance provides a unified voice for the cultural sector of the Space Coast. BCA promotes the cultural vitality of our community while providing high-quality programs/services, marketing and promotional efforts, and advocacy to help our entire cultural community thrive.

The Brevard County Tourist Development Council Cultural Committee offers two grant programs, the Cultural Support and the Major Event Grant Program. Both grant programs promote the arts and cultural events, festivals, performances, museums, etc. in Brevard County while promoting the Space Coast as a tourism destination.

This grant is provided by the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners using the Local Option Tourist Development Act, pursuant to Florida Statutes and the Brevard County Code of Ordinances.

The BOCC has authorized Tourist Development Tax funds to be used for tourist-oriented cultural and special events such as visual and performing arts including theater, concerts, recitals, opera, dance, art exhibitions, festivals and other tourist related activities.

The Major Event Grant Program is a program administered by the Space Coast Tourism Development Office, the focus of which is to promote Brevard County as a large event destination.

On July 11, the Brevard County Board of Commissioners approved the grant program with $150,000 of funding available. The program will award up to $75,000 per eligible application.
