BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Missy Bland has been recognized as Palm Bay Police Department’s V-Cop of the Month.

A Midwestern transplant, Bland and her husband made a job-related move from Chicago to Palm Bay in 2020. The move to Palm Bay had the bonus of relocating near her childhood best friend, Sandy, who encouraged Bland to join her as a volunteer for the police department.

In July 2022, Bland became a VCOP, and with Sandy as her partner, patrols once a week. In addition to her weekly patrol, she is involved with the CARFIT program, fills in at the front desk, and assists with the Senior Santa Program and the VCOP Annual Banquet.

Bland has many creative outlets, including quilting, cooking and baking. She loves to share her creations and the VCOP Office has been the happy recipient of many of her baked goodies.

Bland has been married for 40 years and has three children, three grandchildren, and many other family members scattered across the United States. She recently expanded her local family to include Maya, her new puppy!

Bland loves to help in her community and her involvement in the VCOPs has allowed her to do that, plus gain more insight into her city.
