BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The Palm Bay Police Department is investigating after human remains were discovered inside two suitcases in a remote area of the city known as “The Compound.”

According to Palm Bay police, officers responded around 10:50 a.m. on March 28 to the area of 1574 Bombardier Boulevard after receiving a report of vultures circling an abandoned suitcase.

The location is within a largely undeveloped 2,784-acre area in Palm Bay.

Upon arrival, officers located a closed black suitcase in tall grass and detected a strong odor coming from inside. Investigators later confirmed the suitcase contained human remains.

A second suitcase, also containing human remains, was found nearby.

Authorities said personal belongings were recovered at the scene, including an Amazon package addressed to 19-year-old Lucas Jones.

Palm Bay Detectives determined the incident is believed to have occurred on March 21.

The identity of the remains has not been confirmed.

However, investigators said Jones is associated with Colie Lee Daniels, who had previously been reported missing.

Per the investigation, detectives executed a search warrant at Jones’ residence in Indialantic, approximately 19 miles from The Compound.

According to an arrest affidavit, Jones’ girlfriend told investigators the two were together on March 20 and that Jones appeared to be sleeping.

She said when she briefly left the room, he exited the home through the back door, and she did not see him again until March 21.

The girlfriend told investigators that on March 21, Jones asked her to drive him to The Compound.

Once there, she said he removed two gray totes from her vehicle and placed them in separate locations. She told authorities she did not know what was inside the containers.

Palm Bay police investigators also used a FLOCK license plate reader system, which showed the girlfriend’s vehicle entering The Compound twice on March 21 — at 11:10 a.m. and again at 1:03 p.m.

During a search of Jones’ home, Palm Bay detectives reported finding blood stains in multiple areas. Police also said a kitchen knife recovered from one of the suitcases matched a knife located at the Jones residence.

Jones was taken into custody on March 28 and is facing charges including abuse of a dead human body, tampering with evidence, and improper disposal of human remains.

He is currently being held at the Brevard County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to identify the remains and determine the full circumstances surrounding the case.
