Eastern Florida State Women’s Soccer Captures Region 8 Title with Shut Out Win Over Daytona State

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College women’s soccer team shut out Daytona State College Saturday night to claim the Region 8 Championship at Orlando Health Stadium on the Melbourne campus.

The sixth-ranked Titans defeated Daytona State College 3-0 to advance to the Southeast District Tournament on Nov. 3-4 in Georgia.

Sophomore Nancy Almanza opened the scoring 15 minutes into the contest as Laura Di Mascio made a run and found Almanza in the middle of the box. Almanza put it past the goalkeeper to make it 1-0 Titans. It was Almanza’s sixth goal of the season.

With just under five minutes remaining in the first half, the Titans would strike again, this time on a corner kick as the ball came across the goal and Lea Monteiro headed it for her first goal of the season.

The game would remain 2-0 for most of the way as the Titans dominated possession for much of the game.

With 2:03 left in the game, Morgan Gamin scored to make it 3-0.

Lauren Pastor had four saves to pick up the clean sheet, her sixth of the season.

Eastern Florida State College will advance to the Southeast District Tournament in Milledgeville, Georgia next weekend. The Titans will play Gordon State in the second semifinal on Friday beginning around 3:30 p.m.

Host Georgia Military will play USC Lancaster in the first semifinal. The winners will play for the title and a spot in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament at 2 p.m. on Saturday. All of the games will be played at Georgia College.
