Tale of the tape: Chantelle Cameron vs Katie Taylor

By  //  November 21, 2023

Boxing fans rejoice as Chantelle Cameron and Katie Taylor’s hugely anticipated second bout is firmly on the horizon.

Cameron stunned Taylor when they traded blows in a mammoth undisputed super lightweight fight earlier this year, and this has the making of another Fight of the Year candidate.

The rerun is set to take place back at 3Arena in Dublin on November 25. However, despite home advantage for the second time, the Irish star is the underdog for the first time in her career.

Indeed, the odds on Chantelle Cameron v Katie Taylor are firmly in the Northampton native’s favour, but this could still go either way as there’s a lot on the line for both fighters.

With that said, let’s take a look at the tale of the tape.

Age

32-year-old Cameron is the younger of the two fighters by quite some distance, with Taylor coming in at 37.

Whether or not age played a factor in their first fight is up for debate, but some boxing experts have suggested that Taylor’s powers are starting to diminish.

The Irishwoman has stated she has not considered retiring should she lose to Cameron again, but she will have a lot to prove if she wants to show that the peak of her career is by no means passed.

Record

Taylor left it late to turn professional, as she wanted to try and defend her Olympic gold at the 2016 games in Brazil after winning the top prize in London four years prior.

However, she has plenty of large-scale fights since making her professional debut late in 2016 — becoming a two-weight world champion and going on a run of 22 straight wins before suffering the first defeat of her career against Cameron last time out.

Cameron turned pro in 2017 but hasn’t fought quite as many times as Taylor. She is a world champion in two weight classes as well, and the current undisputed super lightweight champion with a record of 18-0.

Both have fought and defeated several of the same opponents, including two-weight world champions Jessica McCaskill and Victoria Bustos, three-weight world champion Anahi Ester Sanchez and three-time world title challenger Viviane Obenauf.

Taylor and Cameron both beat the first three by unanimous decision, while Cameron forced Obenauf’s corner to forfeit the fight after a brutal six rounds.

KT, on the other hand, went the distance with the Brazilian and won on points in what was just her second professional bout back in December 2016.

Physicality

When it comes to physicality, Cameron has the edge in almost every department — and that was perhaps clear in the first fight.

At 5ft8in, the English fighter is three inches taller than her Irish counterpart (5ft5in). And, her reach is a full three inches more than Taylor’s (66in) as well, at 69in. Both of those factors are quite a big advantage when it comes to trading blows in the ring.
