OBITUARY: Alfred Christian ‘Big Al’ Carlsen Jr., 90, Passed Away Nov. 19 in Melbourne

Big Al was true and honest man, always on the ball field coaching softball

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Alfred Christian Carlsen Jr, also known as Big Al, passed away on November 19, 2023, at the age of 90 in Melbourne, Florida. Born on July 4, 1933, in Brooklyn, NY, Big Al lived a remarkable life filled with passion and dedication.

Big Al was a true and honest man, always on the ball field coaching men’s and women’s softball teams. He was like a second father to many of the players, leaving a lasting impact on their lives. His commitment to the community was unwavering, and he dedicated countless hours to making a positive difference.

In his later years, Big Al and his wife retired and embarked on a journey across the United States in their motorhome. They enjoyed the freedom of the open road, creating memories and experiencing new adventures together. Sadly, after Carolyn’s passing, Big Al found solace in the company of Joann Davidson. They spent their time bouncing from venue to venue, enjoying music, dancing, and sharing laughter with friends.

Big Al is survived by his children, Alfie, Hank with wife Melissa, and KC, who will forever cherish the love and guidance he provided. He was a beloved grandfather to Ben, Nick, Matthew Guest, Halle, and Mikey Carlsen, who will carry his memory in their hearts. Big Al also leaves behind his significant other, Joann Davidson, who stood by his side during his later years.

Services to honor and remember Big Al’s life will be held at Eastminster Presbyterian Church on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Following the service, a reception will be held at the Indian Harbour Beach Recreation Center. Family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by Big Al are invited to attend and share their fond memories.
