Electronics technician at Kennedy Space Center remembered for his strength, kindness and love of the outdoors
John Michael Smith, a longtime Brevard County resident and electronics technician at Kennedy Space Center, passed away at his home in Cocoa on June 22, 2026. He was 55.
BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA — John Michael Smith, a longtime Brevard County resident and electronics technician at Kennedy Space Center, passed away at his home in Cocoa on June 22, 2026. He was 55.
Born on July 13, 1970, in the Bronx, New York, John was the son of Joan and James F. Smith.
He graduated from Bauder College with a degree in Electronics Engineering Technology and built a career as an electronics technician with Amentum at Kennedy Space Center, where his technical knowledge and strong work ethic were well respected.
John will be remembered as a curious, intelligent and hardworking man who approached life with determination and kindness.
During his battle with leukemia, he demonstrated remarkable strength and courage, inspiring those around him with his resilience and unwavering spirit.
Outside of work, John embraced Florida’s outdoor lifestyle.
He enjoyed fishing, paddle boarding and exploring the state’s backroads and trails in his beloved Toyota FJ Cruiser. Above all, he treasured the time he spent with his faithful dog, Sandy, whose companionship brought him immense joy.
John is survived by his daughter, Jessica Smith; his brother, James P. Smith; and his parents, Joan and James F. Smith.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate John’s life on Saturday, Aug. 8, at 2 p.m. at North Brevard Funeral Home, located at 1450 Norwood Avenue in Titusville.
Following the service, family and friends will gather for dinner at Dixie Crossroads, 1475 Garden Street in Titusville.
John’s family will remember him for his generous heart, adventurous spirit and the courage he displayed throughout his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
