BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Military Officers Association of America Florida Council of Chapters held its 47th Annual Convention in Daytona Beach from May 13 to 15.

The gathering of MOAA members represented the State’s 38 chapters and met to elect and install new council officers.

General Gary North (USAF-Retired), Chairman of the Board of MOAA officiated the transition of council leadership from the outgoing President, Commander Pat Kluever (USN-Retired), to the new President, Colonel Steve Bond (USA-Retired). Bond previously served as the Council’s Vice President.

The Council also elected and installed a new Vice President and three of its seven Area Vice Presidents.

Bond is a resident of Melbourne, Florida, and a past President of MOAA’s Cape Canaveral Chapter, the largest chapter in MOAA. He is a 29-year veteran of the U.S. Army, a former member of the U.S. Government Senior Executive Service, and a veteran of military operations in Panama (1989-90) and Saudi Arabia/Kuwait (1990-91).

He was also involved in humanitarian/peacekeeping operations in St. Croix (1989), and Haiti (1994).

After retiring from the Army, he worked for one of the largest Defense-aerospace companies in the U.S. as a director of business development. In this role he served in a U.S. Government Senior Executive Service (SES) Flag/General Officer position as Director of the Intelligence Transition Team and as Senior U.S. Intelligence Advisor to the Iraqi Ministries of Defense (MOD) and Interior (MOI).

He also served on the Counter-Terrorist Force while assigned to the Multi-National Security Transition Command- Iraq (MNSTC-I) and the Multi-National Force-Iraq (MNF-I) during Operation Iraqi Freedom, in what was known as “The Surge.”

Bond holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in history, is a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College, and the Army War College.
