BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College women’s golf team is tied for sixth place after the first round of the NJCAA Division I National Tournament at Duran Golf Club on Monday.

The Titans shot 321 in the first round and are tied with Iowa Western heading into the second round. Daytona State College leads Seminole State College as both shot rounds under par on Monday, Daytona State shooting a 288 while Seminole State finished with a 291.

Freshman Jaida Furlow had a strong finish to shoot an even-par 73. Furlow made the turn at 3-over par but after a bogey on No. 11, she would birdie four of the final seven holes including three of the final four holes.

“It was great, I played pretty well and made some good shots out there, finished strong, and got through it,” Furlow said. “I made some good birdies with my putting.”

Teammate Gracie Doke finished with an 82 while Brittany Odic and Jenna Barnett shot an 83. Emma Parker finished with an 85.

“Hopefully we got our bad round out of the way,” Eastern Florida State College women’s golf coach Jamie Howell said. “Incredible round by Jaida and I know the other girls were tight starting and I don’t know that they ever got comfortable and it showed in their play, we just played nervous.”

The Titans will tee off on hole No. 10 beginning at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday at Duran Golf Club.
