BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Independence Day pyrotechnics may be over, but the Space Coast Symphony is lighting up the summer with Orchestral Fireworks, Saturday, July 20 at 7 p.m., at the Scott Center for the Performing Arts, 5625 Holy Trinity Drive in north Melbourne.

Sparks fly during Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy, the quintessential love theme that perfectly evoke the breathless passion of Shakespeare’s two young lovers. Rockets take center stage during Daniel Perttu’s Valor, a tone poem that traces the hero’s journey, from initial confidence, to conflict, and through to triumph.

Dr. Perttu is Professor of Music Theory and Composition at Westminster College in Pennsylvania. His compositions have been performed by professional orchestras on three continents. This performance of Valor by the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will mark its Southern U.S. premiere.

The awe-inspiring Fifth Symphony of Sergei Prokofiev finishes the program. Premiered in Moscow in 1945, Prokofiev considered the four-movement work the culminating accomplishment of his career, conceived “as glorifying the grandeur of the human spirit…”

Emerging during the darkest days of World War II, Prokofiev began working on the symphony as troops stormed the beaches of Normandy.

During the premiere, artillery fire could be heard echoing in the distance. $35 tickets for Orchestral Fireworks are available through the orchestra website at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at Marine Bank & Trust in Suntree.

Space Coast Symphony Orchestra Conductor and Artistic Director, Aaron T. Collins is pleased to present a concert of Orchestral Fireworks during Season 16.

“The music on this concert is inspiring and filled with emotion,” said Collins. “Tchaikovsky is passionate, Prokofiev is dynamic and the work we are premiering is heroic. It’s a true ‘don’t miss’ event.”

The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra is one of only a handful of U.S. orchestras to perform year-round. Concertgoers aged 18 and under or with a college ID are admitted free to every SCSO concert.

Tickets at the door are $40. Concertgoers aged 18 and under or with a college ID are admitted free to every SCSO concert. For more information about Orchestral Fireworks, call toll free to 855-252-7276 or visit SpaceCoastSymphony.org.
