BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne police officials have reported a twin-engine Beechcraft Duchess en route to Melbourne Orlando International Airport hit a high-tension power line and crashed Thursday evening at about 7 p.m.
According to police, the aircraft crashed into the parking lot of Renningers Flea Market, which is west of I-95 at Sarno Road, and two people on the plane suffered minor injuries.
The Beechcraft aircraft was trying to land at Melbourne Orlando International Airport.
During the approach, the pilot informed the control tower that the aircraft was on emergency fuel and the pilot was attempting to restart the engine.
After impacting the power lines, an outage affecting about 1,000 households was reported.
“The pilot and co-pilot were out of the aircraft and walking upon the first responder’s arrival,” said a Melbourne police spokesperson. “One party complained of minor injuries, and the other was uninjured.”
The flight originated in South Carolina, and the Federal Aviation Administration is now investigating the crash.
