BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Republican Brevard Public Schools Board Vice Chair Matt Susin announced Thursday that he has filed to run for the Florida House District 32 seat.
Susin is running for the Florida House of Representatives seat now held by Florida Rep. Debbie Mayfield in District 32, who is now running for the Florida Senate District 19 seat that Randy Fine will be vacating to run for Michael Waltz’s U.S. Congress seat. President-elect Trump has endorsed Fine for the congressional seat and nominated Waltz as the next national security adviser.
Other Republican candidates who have announced their candidacy for the Florida House District 32 seat are Brian Hodgers of Viera and Bob White of Suntree. Democrat candidates have not yet announced their candidacy.
Susin is a champion for parental rights, fiscal responsibility, and education reform. He said he would fight for the values that have made Florida a nationwide leader.
“My service on the School Board was inspired by President Trump’s call to Make America Great Again and Governor DeSantis’ mission to empower parents to play a greater role in their child’s education,” said Susin.
“Now, I seek to take my passion for individual freedom, fiscal responsibility, and core constitutional principles to Tallahassee to help keep Florida a nationwide leader in economic growth, education, and public safety.”
Susin is a business owner, philanthropist, and former high school history teacher who has dedicated his career to improving public education and strengthening his community.
As a small business owner in Brevard County, Susin has consistently used his position to promote public-private partnerships, helping connect local schools with manufacturers to create a career-ready workforce.
“I know I have big shoes to fill to represent a community with a storied history of great public servants who are tireless advocates for our region,” said Susin.
“In this endeavor, I am encouraged by many local leaders who share my vision for conservative governance, prioritizing securing our ports of entry and Southern Border and tackling skyrocketing inflation and rising insurance costs. I look forward to the weeks and months ahead as we campaign door-to-door to ensure this community has a constitutional, conservative Republican fighting for them in Tallahassee.”
Susan is a member of the Economic Development Council and Space Coast Tech Council and has worked to bridge the gap between local manufacturers and schools, particularly in expanding career pathways in STEM education and trade skills.
He is also committed to giving back through his philanthropic efforts as a Rotarian and serving on the Temple Terrace Boys and Girls Club board.
Susin is a Florida State University graduate and a former Brevard Public Schools history teacher. He was first elected to the Brevard County School Board in 2016. He is married and the father of five children.
According to Brevard County Election Supervisor Tim Bobanic, the timing for the Florida Senate District 19 seat or the Florida House District 32 seat elections has not been set.
