OBITUARY: Darrell ‘Nick’ Nichols of Melbourne Passed Away Nov. 30 at 83

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Darrell “Nick” Nichols of Melbourne, Florida, passed away on November 30, 2024, at 83. Nick was born in Newark, Ohio, on May 10, 1941.
He graduated from Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Ohio, in 1959. Upon graduation, Nick served 20 years in the Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant.
After that, he began a second career in photography. First, he was the manager of a photo store, then a wedding and portrait photographer, and an instructor of basic photography at Brevard Community College and Florida Tech.
Nick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth (Nicolia) Nichols; his children, Doug Nichols, Kara Matarazzo, and David Nichols; and his wife, Bonnie (Watson) Nichols.
In addition, he is survived by his grandson Matt Nichols and his wife Jessica Salazar, granddaughter Samantha (Matarazzo) Herto and her husband Zack Herto, and great-grandson Wade Herto, as well as cousins John Curts and Mary “Meme” Curts.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ida Rine, mother, Etha Rine, aunt, Bertha Curts, and son-in-law, Richard Matarazzo.
Services will be at Hope Lutheran Church, 4541 N. Wickham Rd., Melbourne, on December 10. 2024 at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hope Lutheran Church.
