BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA — A 26-year-old man has been arrested on multiple charges after a chaotic series of events in Palm Bay ended with a shooting, according to police.
The Palm Bay Police Department identified the suspect as Javone Williams, who is accused of attempting to break into several vehicles in a residential neighborhood before being shot by a homeowner defending his property.
Williams faces multiple charges, including armed burglary with a firearm, aggravated assault with a firearm, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, discharging a firearm in a residential area, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The incident unfolded on the evening of Dec. 27 in the area of 501 Titan Road SE.
According to police, officers initially responded to a complaint about a suspicious silver SUV parked outside a residence. While en route, officers received another report involving the same vehicle, which was allegedly connected to a shooting at a nearby home.
Upon arrival at the second location, officers found shell casings on the roadway. The resident told police he had been alerted by his Ring camera about individuals in his driveway. Armed with a gun, the resident confronted two suspects rummaging through his vehicles.
According to the police report, one of the suspects opened fire on the homeowner, who returned fire, forcing the suspects to flee in a waiting getaway car.
Shortly afterward, officers were alerted that a man with a gunshot wound had arrived at the Palm Bay Hospital Emergency Room. The injured man was identified as Williams.
Williams initially claimed he had been shot in an unrelated incident near Malabar Road and Capeador Street NW, but police found no evidence of a shooting at that location. His story unraveled further when his girlfriend denied his claim that she had ordered an Uber to the area.
Surveillance footage from the neighborhood reportedly showed Williams and another man searching vehicles and engaging in an altercation with the armed resident. Police say Williams was wearing the same pants in the hospital as seen in the video.
According to police, officers conducted a gunshot residue test on Williams, which came back positive, and a background check revealed Williams is a convicted felon with a prior record in Brevard County.
