BREVARD SHERIFF WAYNE IVEY: Sleeping Drivers Lose in ‘DUI Olympic Events’, Arrested on Drug and DUI Charges

This is what I call Monday Madness, folks. We have not one but two people who “passed out” behind the wheel of their vehicle in the middle of the road!

On Sunday night, around 7 p.m., Deputies in Merritt Island responded to calls for a vehicle that was stopped in the roadway, and the driver appeared to be passed out behind the wheel.

As Deputies arrived on the scene, they observed the driver, Daniel Ormsby, sleeping in the driver’s seat. As he exited the vehicle, he had a tough time standing, but he agreed to give it the old college try and participate in the DUI Olympic Events, also known as Field Sobriety Exercises!

Well, no shocker here, but he didn’t do great on the DUI Olympic Events and was subsequently placed under arrest for DUI. As Deputies searched the vehicle, they located aluminum foil with burnt residue on it near the driver seat, along with a cut straw.

Also located in the vehicle were nine oxycodone-hydrocodone pills, one Adderall pill, three Clonazepam pills, and approximately 1.5 grams of Cocaine.

Ultimately, Ormsby took the ride for DUI, Refusal to Submit, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of a controlled substance without a prescription (x3), and Possession of drug paraphernalia with a $12,000 bond.

Then, like déjà vu, at approximately 3:30 a.m. Monday morning, Deputies from our West Precinct happened upon a vehicle stopped at a red light, but when it turned green, the vehicle never moved.

As Deputies approached the vehicle, they observed this driver, Tyzel Davis, also taking a little nap behind the wheel. When he awoke to Deputies tapping on his window, he started to move the vehicle forward before realizing there was someone at his window.

Now, if being under the influence while operating a motor vehicle isn’t bad enough, things didn’t get any better as Davis didn’t have a valid license and should have never been behind the wheel to begin with. Once out of the vehicle, Davis also attempted the DUI Olympic Events, but as you might imagine, he too struck out here and did not perform them to standard, and was placed under arrest for DUI.

Now, during a search of Davis’ person in a plastic container that was strung around his neck, Deputies located approximately 0.35g of Cocaine. In the vehicle, they located 17 Vicodin pills and four Alprazolam pills. Davis took the ride for DUI, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of a controlled substance without a prescription (x2), and Operating a motor vehicle without a license with a $8,500 bond.

I’m not really sure where to begin with these two, but if you want to make stupid decisions to do drugs, stay home, stay off the streets, and definitely stay out from behind the wheel of a vehicle.

As I’ve said before, you may not care about your life, but the lives of our community members should not be at risk from your poor decisions!
